1. Peanut Farm (Inside Section)
Located about 15 minutes south of Arugam Bay by tuk-tuk, Peanut Farm is widely considered the crown jewel for beginners.
The spot gets its name from the peanut farms that used to line the beach, but today, it is famous for its idyllic setting. The bay features a long, peeling wave that breaks off a rocky point. While intermediate surfers ride the outside section, the whitewash rolls gently into a deep, sandy bay on the "inside."

2. Whisky Point
Located about 20 minutes north of town, Whisky Point is a longboarding paradise.

3. Elephant Rock
Elephant Rock is a stunning, wild beach located just south of Peanut Farm. It requires a bit of a walk through the sand (and sometimes wading through a shallow lagoon) to reach, but the reward is immense.
The inside section here is heavily protected by the massive rock formation, meaning the waves are extremely small and manageable. Spots to Avoid (Until You Improve!)
As a beginner, there are a few spots you should stay away from until your skills progress:
- Main Point: The most famous wave in Arugam Bay. It breaks over a sharp reef and is highly competitive, crowded with advanced surfers. Leave this one alone for now!
- Okanda: Located far to the south, this wave is fast, hollow, and powerful.
