Yala is Sri Lanka's most famous national park, renowned for having one of the highest leopard densities in the world.

The Logistics: Yala's main entrance is further away (about a 2.5-hour drive from Arugam Bay). You can't easily combine a surf session with a Yala safari on the exact same day without feeling rushed.
The Safari: If seeing a leopard is your absolute #1 priority, Yala is the place to go.
How to do it: We recommend making Yala a dedicated day trip. Take a rest day from surfing (a "lay day"), wake up at 4:00 AM, and head to Yala for the sunrise opening.
